Giertsbäcksdalen is situated in one of Europe's largest protected nature reserves (vindelfjällensnaturreservat), Vindel mountains nature reserve, which has a total area of some 550,000 hectares.

The area , despite the rough climate,  offers multitudinous variations of plant and wildlife. Everything from old pine forests to plain mountain vegetation. Here one can, with a bit of little luck and skill take part of wildlife such as eagles, falcons, mountain foxes and fresh bear tracks on one and the same day.

For the angler, the valley offers an "Eldorado" for the trophy of good catches and spectacular experiences.

Not only is upper Gierts brook, filled with good-sized grayling and trout, but even the small pools and lakes in the surrounding area are tilled with surprises.
